‘Junk Girl’ awarded at US festival

Three Iranian shorts including popular animated movie ‘Junk Girl’ have grabbed awards at the Atlas & Aeris International Film Festival in the US city of Boston.

The multi-award-winning Iranian animation ‘Junk Girl’ by Shalale Kheiri and Mohammad Zare brought home the award for Best Production Design from the 2017 Atlas & Aeris Film Festival, which was held in the US state of Massachusetts on January 15-31.

‘Junk Girl’ is about a doll girl made of junk, which is mistreated by others and forced to leave her city. The flick’s story is inspired from a poem by Tim Burton titled ‘The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories’.

The 15-minute animation has so far gone on winning 33 awards from multiple film festivals around the world.

The jury from the 2017 Atlas & Aeris festival also selected dramatic short ‘Hunting’ and romantic short ‘Silence’, both written and directed by Zahra Jafari, for the Best Artistic Film and Best Cinematography for Saeed Hesari, respectively.

The 2017 Atlas & Aeris Film Festival hosted 50 works, including 45 films and 5 scripts from 17 countries around the world.

Atlas & Aeris is an online editorial magazine dedicated to independent film, with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. The event features a professional jury of award-winning independent filmmakers from New York, Los Angeles, and other countries.
